Create and publish an assignment

Assignments are attached to a live-course session. Saving a draft does not make it visible to enrolled students; publish it only after checking its instructions and availability.

Create a draft

  1. Open Activities and select Create assignment.
  2. Choose the live course and session.
  3. Enter an assignment title and clear instructions.
  4. Set the maximum score. You can optionally add questions for a structured assignment; leave questions empty for a written-response assignment.
  5. Review the due date and closing time. These are optional. For an assignment, you can also choose whether to accept late submissions until the closing time.
  6. Set the allowed attempts (1–3). Add teacher reference attachments or enable student file submission if needed.
  7. Select Save draft.

Review and publish

  1. Open the saved draft from the Activities list.
  2. Check the course, session, instructions, questions, score, attempt limit, attachments, and dates.
  3. Select Publish and confirm.

Publishing makes the activity available to eligible students. Published content and the attempt limit cannot be changed through the draft editor; check everything before publishing. If you find an error after publication, ask your course administrator for the appropriate next step.

You need assignment-management access to create or publish activities. If the menu or button is missing, ask an administrator to check your permissions.
