How attendance, makeups, and progress reports relate

Attendance records support several parts of Speakly, but an attendance summary and a progress-report grade do not necessarily count the same things. Use the value shown for the specific screen you are working in.

Makeups are tied to the original absence

A makeup is scheduled on the original CWN attendance entry. Until it is marked Completed, it is not a completed makeup. The course attendance matrix counts a completed CWN makeup as attended; an uncompleted scheduled makeup is not counted the same way there.

Progress-report attendance

The course attendance matrix counts H and CWN with a completed makeup as attended, using sessions covered by the student's enrollment as its range.

The progress-report attendance summary counts H records in the report's session range against the attendance records found for that range. The automated attendance grade component also counts H only, but compares it with non-cancelled sessions in the report range. Neither progress-report calculation counts a completed CWN makeup as present.

For that reason, a rate shown in an attendance screen may differ from a progress-report rate or grade. Do not compare the percentages as if they were calculated from the same records and denominator.

Saved reports do not update automatically

A saved grade calculation reflects the data used when that report was last calculated. Later attendance or activity changes do not silently rewrite an already-saved report. If the underlying records change, ask the report's responsible teacher or administrator to review and recalculate it if appropriate.
